Erm if you spent the £8000 or so extra it costs to buy a T-Jet over a Mk2b Active Sport on tuning then you could eat T-Jets for breakfast, the Abarth wouldn't have a chance either!

I agree with that, but surely its more than just BHP output. Im sure you will agree, either my Stilo or a Mk2b are not a patch on the quality of a GPS or the drivability. My new power output doesnt mean much, its to do with the way the car feels, and the up-rated torque. Basically, im saying why break your back for 8 bhp

I agree, because a mk2 b will be very unreliable with that amount of modification to meet or beat the gps power output,

Many people get suckered into the bhp output saga, its merely there to advertise a car,, tourque and gear ratios it where it really, is, Bhp is a formula of the two,

I hold my hands up now and say that kaylorz 1.2 with short box and 94bhp will beat both mine and adamcots 120-25 bhp stilos in a 1/4 mile sprint..

but if you have the brass to mod a mk2 with 8k orf mods i would love to see it... would be a brute!

Sorry Singh, but why is it such a mission to get 100 bhp?? Surely it would be cheaper and easier to buy a T-Jet GP instead??

Its not paramount that i get 100bhp.. but the reason i am trying to find out why im not is because there are 1.2 16v engines that have had the gsr/map treatment and gone straight to 100bhp... whereas mine only reached 93, its just the fact that i paid the same money so why dont i get the same results??

And as for changing the car for a more powerful one.. i just cant afford it, im a student and just running the car is killing me but i do have a passion for cars and want the best i can get for the moment.
I really really really wanted the mk2b sporting (1.4 16v) but could not afford the insurance or the price of the car last year on it so i settled for this, and now ive done a few things to it, it would just be too much hassle changing it.

what exhaust you got? all the ones that go to 100 have full supersprint systems dont they?
hmm mabee im not sure.. but i thought there were some that had gone to 100bhp from just the map and induction?

I'm thinking of just changing the manifold for the moment (as i dont want an exhuast doing my head in when on the motorway).. but do i have to change the cat and also whats the best price you guys have got for one?

A Supersprint system is pretty quiet compared to the competition, it doesn't sound like a million ambulances chasing thee million spanners down some stairs, unlike most after market zorsts.(y)

i think mezzy got 100hp from just a remap and induction

I'm planning on getting a supersprint backbox/ system as hopefully it won't be that loud, and you should get good gains from it.

you cant fit just manifold, you need a sports cat. supersprint are ok on a motorway they only growl when you floor it, crusing at motorway speed no noise at all :)

did you not hear mine?

well i think i might just got for a supersprint cat back system for the moment in that case, as long as i cant hear it when just cruising because it will get annoying on a 4hr motorway journey if it is.
Is it more like the gsr kit? quite when just cruising.. but roars when you put your foot down...?

I knew I should have come down in my car! Could have shown you exactly the amount of noise you get out of a GSR/Supersprint combo!

is your pre cat lambda in the manifold or front pipe?

Pre cat lambda is in the 1st hole on the manifold

Or are they the wrong way round?

Im 90% sure they are the correct way round, could it be the difference in the readings is outside what the ECU deems acceptable so throwing up the light as the pre cat lambda is only getting gasses from half the engine and the post cat from the whole engine???

Oh and with the management light on will it will be over riding the red dot map I have???

The grandes also weigh about as much as a Stilo, the Mk2/2b is a lot lighter so 100bhp goes further ;)

I agree with everything above, but I think you need to look at the bigger picture! I am a student too, but I saved all my money and bought a Stilo. The only reason ive had the induction kit is because I am on a sandwich degree and have just started my placement year, so I have money. Is 7 bhp really worth all the trouble that it causes you?? And plus, for a 1.2, 93bhp is very good going!! But its your money and your car I suppose so its up to you.

lol, im not on a mission to create an unreliable car, but all i wanted was what other people have got out of their engines with subtle mods (remap, gsr, supersprint) and all of those are just making the engine more efficient anyway - and a bit more fun (y)

Looking at the bold bit... another 1.2 16v after me got 98bhp from just a remap and gsr...so why didnt i? I know ive been told engines can vary slightly, but 5bhp difference??? (the torque has come in about the same so at the end of the day im not that fussed)

Yep the torque is the important bit!! My engine is supposed to put out 103 bhp as standard, and it showed at 111bhp before any modifications! So theres 8bhp there, making it possible for your engine to be slightly down. I suppose it is good fun playing with it, but im sure there will be a point when it just isnt worth it anymore??

Yeh mine was only supposed to be putting out 80bhp but rolled 85.9bhp stock!
thats why i wasnt happy with the gains it got from a remap and gsr... seemed a lot of money for 7bhp.
and yeh there will be a point when i stop modifying... when i hit my budget of £800... so ive got £440 left for the exhuast system but im still having second thoughts... as its a lot of money for not much more power at all
