Not for the moment, but I'm researching roll cages, for the future.

I can only find two types, both OMP.

I am interested in a cage that will do the job, not a show cage, so what's about other that the OMP?:

Is the above a full cage or half cage? I presume thats a full cage, and will need bolting and welding in? Do the bolt point just go through the thin skin of metal?! or do they line up with more structural parts?

It doesn't look like it will be an issue having a sunroof.

Can you post pics and opinions on yours? Brooky? Rallcinq? etc.

Cheers (y)

Safety Devices do loads of different cages and are rather popular with the likes of historic rallying etc.

Mine was omp (i think) and it sat on plates which where meant to be welded to the car. The cage then bolts to these plates

The cnq one was exactly the same as the one in the pic but didnt have door bars

The expensive alternative is to have a custom made cage, which is likely to be welded in and have pick ups for the front suspension turrets, at least. No real reason why an OMP cage couldn't be modified, and I think they're just plain old CDS tube, so no welding issues there.

Of course, a lot depends on what you want to do with the car. Running a cage without a full harness is very dangerous -- don't do it.

Some insurance companies are funny about insuring road cars with cages as in an accident they can make a real mess of the occupants when not wearing helmets, think about your nice soft skull hitting that solid cage, not pretty.

Though as fingers has pointed out, using full harnesses can elevate this issue.

a bit of foam pipe lagging will sort that, no? (y)

Have you tried putting pipe lagging over your head though? its bloody tight and the cable ties cut into my ears.....

oh hang on, pipe lagging on the roll cage, thats a better idea:D

Also, I'm sure Brooky's cage has a Sparco sticker on it, so not sure if its their cage or not.

Mine is a Sparco one. The kit came with the plates that are to be welded in. Beware large picture.

Cheers

Yes a full harness should be worn.....and tightened....the lad who i got the cage from had a bump and he nutted the bar that runs along the top of the windscreen....required a few stiches

Get proper roll cage padding, not pipe lagging.....

pipe lagging is designed to keep heat in/out....roll cage padding is designed to help your head upon impact.

It makes sence.

But ill be up for seeing the test with the scaffolding pole tho:D

Well, this has certainly put a dampener on my idea.

Basically I was interested in safer cabin space due to my extra power, speed, and spirit ;)

I also wanted to take on track days sometime in the future, hence the FIA approved.

But it's still my dailey runner and like fook am I wearing a helmet all day ever day lol...look like a nutter, but i don't want my brains all over the screen .... I wouldn't still be around to witness that spectacle :p

Insurance is not an issue money wise. If it WAS/IS safer, i can stomach a few hundred more....but if its not safe then i dunno what to do now.

Those with cages never drive on the road? Or put their helemts on?

Luckily never had a crash, so could chance it, but that defeats the whole point lol

if your strapped in, you'll have no problems. its just nobheads that dont tighten the harness up so they can ponse around with there radio's.....and who needs them.

A cage will also stiffen up the car(y)(y)

So your saying buckets and hrness a must? ££ goes up quick lol

Surely stock seats and belt with pretensioners will hold me solid?

No. A half spin in a Fulvia put my bum on the squab of the passenger seat. Had I had a cage and spun t'other way, I'd probably have thumped my head. And I'd lay odds that when it spins, a Sei spins faster than a Fulvia.......
