Sad news... My Punto cacked it today.

I lost power at a roundabout this morning and called the AA, but managed to get it to limp to work; it worked fine at lunchtime on my snack run, and then it died at another roundabout on the way home.

AA attended, it's the head gasket. :bang: :bang: :bang:

So it's knackered. I put some work in, put some love in, put some time in, and that's the end of it.

Looks like I'm picking up a Focus tomorrow if it works out, just because I need something running for a while until I can afford something I can love again.

Sad news indeed.

I replaced the gasket on our Punto at 85k, at 130k now. Twenty quid for the gasket and coolant and a relaxed days work on the drive with lot's of cuppas.

last time i had a punto returned to my workshop via a recovery service they too said head gasket
i had the car out the door 2 hours later as i had to wait for pages to send down a new thermostat
this weather can stick them if old and unusually on the fire engine they always go faulty shut
fords usually stay open
