Hi,

Just noticed today my amber warning light (on the dashboard) comes on when I'm braking. I then noticed that when I brake, the right indicator light decides to come on as well- dimming the right brake light.

Additionally, to make my Mk2 look like a mobile christmas tree, the right brake light decides to flash when I indicate right.

Please note the left hand side of the car has no problems whatsoever.

I've done a bit of research and found out it may be something to do with earth cables?

Being a mechanical noob, could someone please explain what they think the issue might be, and how I can fix it.

Any help will be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks fellow mk2 drivers :)

Alex

If you remove the rear light cluster, theres two bolts inside the car, one in the boot and one further up behind a circular cap. Then pull the light out from the back of the car and unplug it. just give the pins a clean with some emery cloth. Worked for me (y).
Good luck,
Dan

Tail light earths are not really up to the job they get old fraid wet dirty resistance goes up to the current finds a different rout via a different circuit.

Take out the rear lights and clean the contacts at the multi plugs well you might find the earth has got too hot melted the plug or the light fitting either way you'll need to change some bits but in the mean time start with cleaning
