How do I switch off the 'cardiac arrest' reversing bleeper? Can it be done with Multicuscan? :)

This should not be switched off it is a legal requirement to have it working and a DOE fail if it is off.

Uhm. Just been searching this out of interest, I am not sure it is a blanket legal requirement. It is implicitly required on commercial sites and for general commercial running but if you want to run it as a camper van or even horse box you won't win many friends. The Maxi is a big van and any driver would be wise to practise lots whenever safe, fit a reversing camera, reversing sensors and learn to properly use the full range of the mirrors.

A reversing alarm is not required to be fitted to a motorhome and it is actually an offence to have one operating on a vehicle when it is not required to be fitted!

However, they are required to be fitted to goods vehicles with a maximum gross weight of more than 2000kg which is why they can usually be found on panel van conversions.

Personally, I see it as an added safety feature and, as I don't spend all my time driving in reverse either on a road or round campsites, and have never been bothered by the police, many of whom wouldn't know the exact legislation without looking it up anyway if they could be bothered, I'm more than happy that my van has one.

Yes, you can have all the mirrors in the world, reversing cameras and sensors, but none help when you want to reverse and a dozy pedestrian is standing behind the van completely unaware of your intention. The buzzer is less likely to make them jump into traffic or have a sudden shock than a blast of the horn ;-)

You need to remove the reverse sensor ecu, then run multiecuscan proxy alignment (should clear the fault warning)
I’ve not done mine, was going to when I fitted a t-bar, but never had the bar fitted

Thanks for that response. The Vehicle is actually a Motorcaravan and I do have a legal copy of Multiecuscan. You mention removing the reverse sensor - does this mean the reversing camera (factory fit) will stop working?

Wouldn’t know mate,
You also need to bear in mind a Motorhome is often “household” electrics from the cab back

So the ECU I mentioned may not even be genuine and finding it may be a fun job, again reversing camera who knows what’s fitted

My guess is totally non genuine, ??*♂️??*♂️
Ask the builders of the Motorhome

Just cut one of the wires to the bleeper. If the canbus gets all arsey about it, find out if you can, about the power consumption of the unit, and fit a corresponding resistor, bulb or other load so the system 'sees' an equivalent consumer.

I decided to disconnect my reversing alarm as I do a lot of very early/late reversing at my home.

On my 2014 X250 I found the alarm connector behind the drivers side rear light cluster. It’s a grey plug that you just pull apart, no EML or effect on the working of the rear lights so happy days, I just need to remember to re-connect it come MOT day.

P.S. I know what others say about the safety side of things, but people and other drivers just walk/drive right behind whether you have a reversing alarm beeping loudly at them or not - it almost seems to be a lemming style game for them.
