i have recently purchased a 1998 Fiat Punto sporting. it is all in good working order apart from one thing- the reverse lights do not seem to be working, i have tried replacing bulbs and cleaning the terminals but this still doesnt work.
i have been told it may be the reverse light switch- can anyone tell me where this can be found and if it is easy to change? any ideas on cost? any advice please?

there is a switch on the gear box post your engine size (depending on the engine and gear box depends where the switch lives on the gear box)

look on the gear box (below the battery tray)

you will see a plug with 2 wires coming from it

order a replacement switch from your dealer (cost about £10) soak in release oil overnight then remove and replace

hope that helps you really posted in the wrong section the "car care" is all all about cleaning and polishing and making your car shiney you might have got a quicker response in the proper Punto section but we was all new once (y)

this is my 1.2 grande punto which i beleve has the same gear box

the gold bit with the black plug on what my hand is under

unplug the black connector and use a paper clip across the two pins in the plug (on the wire) to "short" them out ((to fool them that the switch is on) and have a mate tell you if the lights come on (with the ignition on obviously or you will look a right tit when nothing happens ;) )

if thats the case its new switch time

soak in penitrating oil then un bolt ((looks like you will need a deep socket))

unbolt

bolt new one in plug wire back on

and pray
