That's a good start :) (excuse the pun)

For the VIN, post up a pic of the plate and people can comment. Some have paint codes, some don't so it's difficult to say. The VIN itself is just a sequential number, and doesn't denote spec/model etc. like Morden VINs.

Ok still having problems uploading photos. The vin numbers are as follow igm 3890 Om. 110f 2451798. Engine 110 000. Then 2452242 on the bottom of the vin. So far I've worked out from the vin that the car was built in 1970 and it's an f body but not sure what the original colour was? Do theses number indicate this? Any help will be much appreciated.

Yes as you say it's a 1970. It's only possible to tell whether it's an F or L based on spec. On this year the L's had the rectangular dash and this is unlikely to have been changed, but not impossible, so is usually the best way to tell.

Leo, you see it stated that the aluminium VIN plate gives the colour code. From my experience, this is not always the case. My later model has a code and the earlier (1969) doesn't.
The best clue as to original colour might be to look at the interior paintwork, Even if this has been resprayed the paint layers may not be all that thick. If doubt still exists then check inside the rear vent area which may have some original overspray.
Once you have a basic colour, eg. yellow, blue etc., in theory there seems to have been a limited a range of that colour in each season's production run.
Undoubtedly, someone here will give you the three digit paint code as soon as they get sight of some original paint. But it seems unusual for people to be as pedantic as I was in using the original colour.

Thanks guys I'm pretty sure it was red as the dash was the original red when I got the car. It was a few shades different thou, could have been because of its age or the exterior colour being a different red. The exterior looks more like a Ferrari red?
