Retractable key broken.....

Posting this in here as the key type is used on a few models I believe (certainly the 500)

The key for our 500L has stopped 'springing' open when you press the FIAT button.

You can get the key to open but only by pressing the button and teasing the key out which is far from convenient. The spring that flips it open has clearly broken.

The car is only 7 months old.

Has this happened to anybody else within the warranty and if so did they deal with it as a warranty issue or were you forced to but a new one (I believe they are around £90 !!) and of course a new key will have to be matched to the car I guess.

Well even though I didn't get an answer (suggesting this is not a common problem) I can report that as if by magic it has started working again.

Initially it would only partly extend on pressing the FIAT badge however now it extends fully once again.

I can only assume something like a piece of grit or sand was jamming it and that has now freed itself.
