This is a handbrake assembly that has sat in the rain for 20 years; and yes that is bare metal you can see.
It was very heavily rusted

One of the front struts.

So where does all the rust go then you ask.? ............

Well go on......... Ask............

Everything has been turned 180 degrees (cos electrolysis works in straight lines between the item and the annode) and popped back in the bath for another night.

Thanks Vern, very exciting day for me sorry if I air-bursted you with questions.

While I was visiting, Vern showed me his Bilt-Hamber results which I have to say are very impressive indeed.

Can I suggest you post some pics please..?

I did start this thread with some but if you mean the discs then yes I'll take some tomorrow. (y)

Among an assortment of parts I bought recently was this Mk1 A panel. It had been in stock at a dealers for about twenty five years and as a result the beige primer had failed in places and surface rust had taken hold. I was only able to emerse half at a time in the Deox C bath so it came out as an excellent before and after demonstration.....

Clean area was simply brushed off with an old plastic washing up brush and came out spotless ready for re priming.

I have one too - passenger side I think. It was meant to be a mk2 Panda driver's front wing!! The seller didn't want it back when he sent the right part, so I got it free (y)

Like most mk1 panels there are more around than the physical cars. That's why there's never a rush for doors when one appears at silly money!! That and the general lack of rusting on the mk1 doors - ok I'll rephrase that - the lack of rusting on the handful of mk1's which didn't dissolve in the '80's.....:(

could take them to davidsons(scrap merchants) when i next go ;)

Dare I suggest you start clearing out some of the secret lockups Brian? You keep threatening to unearth various bits - Palio seats?!! If you just keep parts for the cars you own, you could pass on all the 127 bits to me, all the mk1 Panda bits to er me, all the mk1 Strada bits to, well me really!!! (y) :D
