Technical Replacing Multipla Glow Plugs?

Well I eventually got round to ordering a new set of Glow Plugs for my ugly bug, took top engine cover off ready to fit and can't even see the Glow Plugs let alone change them! Anyone got any tips for getting to them ? It looks like part of the fuel line needs removing to get at them!

Or should I just bite the bullet and take it to a FIAT dealer (have the right tools)? or local garage? anyone paid to have these done recently, how much?

Have started trying to do a bit of servicing myself after my MOT in October = £997!!! Apparently the rubber bushes on the Multipla rear axle are not available as a part! so my local mechanic had to replace the whole rear axle! £200 labour, £797 parts (rear axle and both rear axle arms)!

I do love the Multipla but I'm afraid it's a love/hate relationship due to the build quality.

Two years of ownership and following replaced:
* both front suspension units
* both front link bars
* all 4 wheel bearings
* both rear suspension struts
* Rear axle and both arms
* crank sensor

also ongoing problems:
Spare wheel winch broken
air bag light permanently on
intermittently not going into gear
alarm setting itself off

apart from that it's great!!!!

i used a multi meter to test mine before i did them and thankfully it was only the first 2 from left to right, ive got to pop out now so ill try and remember later and post (if i can remember) what i did but they are in BLOODY TIGHT i ran the engine to get things warm in the end to remove them as it felt like they were going to break .

Check the wiring under the seat, poor connection make the light go on.

Yes, looking at the cr*ppy service CD- it says to remove the fuel return manifold.
I was thinking of having a go at replacing the glowplugs but the car starts just fine, so to stop the annoying flashing glowplug light, without having to actually remove the dud glowplug, I was going to find which one had failed with a voltmeter, and bung a resistor across the glowplug to fool the ECU into thinking the glowplug hadn't gone open circuit.

The intermittent g/box selector is a problem we suffered with ours for a few years it usually occurred when v. cold. I found it would occasionally even refuse to go into gear at all - I found (when engine off) if you simply gently rolled into gears over and over selector eventually came back and went away... Some time later the g/box packed up of course (on a warm summers day). Get AA breakdown cover - it cost me £300 instead of £800 to replace, (by Continental Cars, Tufnell Pk, London). Mine was bought new as a grey import and the steering rack was dodgy from the beginning although (under warranty) Fiat always denied problem, until one day a few yrs later it was clearly hanging off - then it cost at Fiat about £700 to replace. Other than those things, in nine years had no major problems... And still drives not dissimilar to how it did when new.

'alarm setting it self off'
had this before on my last bug (w reg) it was the volumetric sensor(monitors the inside of the car) the sensor is located in the front interior light cluster..it looks like 2 little tweeter speakers.. if you gain access to the back of it you can disconnect the connector to the sensor. give that a trial. what you will find though is when the alarm is armed ...one beep, there is another beep after couple of seconds warning that there is something wrong...ignore this as the rest of the alarm system still works.

I've got the flashing glow plug light now, which from this thread I assume means one or more of them is kaput? I expect the fact that I've changed the battery has proved too much for one or more of them.

It seems to start fine though - do I need to replace them?

No, unless the temperature gets down into <-10c or unless you can't live with the light on the dash any longer!
