I plan on renewing the spark plugs, not done it before and would like to know if when replacing the HT leads over the plug is the rubber bottom ment to push over the hexagonal bolt section of the plug or does it just push over the top end until it stops ? Fiat Punto Y 1.2 8V

when removing is it ok to use plyers to grip the rubber end fitting part near the nobbely top or middle (but not the wire of corse i mean) to help them come off as the seem real stiff?

any other advice n tips about replaceing the plugs appreciated tnx

(***Im replacing them to see if it will fix the often but not every time bad starts ups as sometimes when starting it just stop n stalls n then when trying again pressing accelater pedal a bit makes it rev iratic n weird as if it miss firing ... 3 time round it usualy finaly starts up. Ive asked before n people said it could be MAP sensor which ive figured out how to replace the plugs dont cure. I hope it is the plugs that just need renewing ... i asked a guy in halfords n just gave me a lot of tech talk telling me could be this that n other and about how fiats have software problems in their ECU's ... just so happens last year my ECU did go faulty and had it replaced so now im hoping its not on its way out to be faulty again! its still under garantee i think so if plugs dont fix worth asking the place where i had ECU done to look at it ?? tnx. )))

Hi mate, you need to pull the leads off by hand and its best to use a 16mm spark plug spanner, don't use a pair of plyers. It's best to take the plugs out when the engine is cold! If you are replacing the leads make sure you don't take them all off the coil pack, because they need to go exactly where they come off. So take the the leads off the plug first, but leave the leads on the coil, then replace the plugs, then put the leads on one at a time, ensuring you do one at a time. Start with the small lead first and work up, (make sure you put them exactly where they came off) and when putting them over the the plug, just push down until pops into place. Good luck, Steve.
