I understand the C rear window isn't actually bonded and sits within the aperture in a groove between the inside and the outside of the convertible roof.

I've been seeing some written off C's with, among other things, no rear window. Has anyone ever replced the rear glass on one? Any ideas how much it costs? I'm wondering if buying a write off C with broken glass is a good move or not.

From what I can see the glass is supported on levers at each side (part 10 at the link) which fold it down as the roof opens and it's not physically attached to the fabric except at the lower edge. When the roof's closed the glass is just pressed against the rubber surround at top and sides. Pressure washing is discouraged...!

The photo shows mine about halfway down. I haven't done it of course but I imagine it'd be an expensive replacement entailing at least partly dismantling the roof.

As far as I remember the C rear window is not available as a standalone part. That would mean high cost for a complete roof assembly or getting the glass made by a specialist (if that is still possible these days). So probably better stay away from that one.

Even if I had it - which I don't... The odds against accidentally breaking a back window, especially in a 500C, must be pretty high so it would seem a fairly good bet for an insurance company - then again, they don't like to take chances... A million to one bet is considered reckless.

Most side and rear window glass breakage is deliberate, not accidental - hence the reason why some insurers are shy about including it in the cover.

You can improve your odds considerably by not leaving anything valuable in view when you park it.
