Hi,

There's a crack on one of my 2011 Twinair coolant bottle spigots, so more expense.

Just been looking online, and none of the bottles for sale, genuine Fiat, or otherwise, have the brass reinforcing tubes inside the spigots.

Anyone replaced their bottle and noticed this change in design?

If they're all going to get brittle with age, with no added strength then I might as well get a cheapo. Unless someone knows otherwise.

I know it sucks and 8 years out of a coolant bottle isn't exactly great but if you replaced it and got another 8 years it wouldn't be the end of the world either. Especially if you replace it yourself, I've seen some as cheap as €20 new.
 
I've just found a thread, detailing the new look coolant bottles without brass inserts.

So I might have posted a bit early.

I've also found a genuine Fiat bottle for a very nice price.

Otherwise, I think I'd have gone for a cheapo, as they all self destruct anyway.

It's the turbo return spigot that fails, so it would be nice if the aftermarket ones have reinforced them as well. The genuine ones look to have a white plastic reinforcement liner, instead of brass.

Mine was less than four years old when it first showed signs of leakage. I reckon the brass insert expanding and contracting with the heat is partly to blame. I bought a genuine part because I couldn't know whether aftermarket producers had kept up with modifications, and while their product might be as good it was unlikely to be better.

It's been about twenty months now with no issues but my car does very low mileage.
 
The brass seems to blacken on the offending turbo spigot, which suggests moisture gets between it, and the plastic. I plan on tightening the hose clips carefully on the new one.

Mine's low mileage car, too, and only does 5 thousand, middle aged man, miles a year.

I don't rag it, but it doesn't leave the city much.

I'd have got a Toyota if I wanted ultra reliability, but I'd have hated myself for it.

I’m hoping to be getting a twin air to break for parts at the end of the week. Fingers crossed.
 
Mine started leaking there after about 4 years. There were very few reports of it then, and I couldn't see any cracks so I applied plumbers silicone and put the hose on with 2 hoseclips. No more problems for the further 2 years I had the car. If I had positively identified the fault I would have replaced the bottle - I suspect the new design without the brass insert is probably more rugged.
Incidentally, this was the only fault with the car from new to 6 years old and 46000 miles, so no complaints from me on reliability.
 
My wife's 2012 TA had a similar issue, the coolant tank had a small crack on the return pipe so it was leaking coolant. New one was ~£20 from the local dealer.
