I would like someones opinion on " should I or shouldn't 1 ? "
My 52 plate scudo van has been making some odd noises .. it's been suggested that it's the fuel injectors but as the garage diagnostics machine will not talk to my vehicle they can't 100% be sure.
For the past few years the MOT advisories have been corroded brake pipes, sill replacement etc .. ( big stuff) I have ignored keeping up with them, but they will need doing probs for the next MOT.
Do I pay out a couple of grand to have everything sorted ( possibly ! ) is it worth having the injectors done - or to go with a new vehicle that I know nothing about ( apart from DVLA MOT history checks ) and run the risk of wasting 5k odd ? ( that I don't really have either ) I really can't sort out the best option .. maybe a new engine 🤷
The vans digital display doesn't work, the radio doesn't work, one sliding side door doesn't slide -
Some constructive guidance would be appreciated please. 😁

Given the age of the vehicle and the pending large bills at next Mot I would just keep my eye open for a good low cost replacement rather than throwing lots of money at the one you have. The reason being brakes pipe replacement is not the end of the world, but any rust in sills etc. is usually the thin end of the wedge and often every Mot after a little more work needs doing rust wise. Especially if you suspect engine issues as well.
There are cheap vans around, I recently sold my 08 Citroen Dispatch 2.0 with a long Mot for £1100 which is basically a Fiat Scudo with different badges and about 2 years ago sold my 2010 Fiat Scudo 2.0 litre LWB 8 seater for £2200.
If you are staying with similar size vans I would prefer the 2.0 litre to the 1,6 as it is working hard, your older 1,9 is more the older style work horse.
The later 2.0 like those I had have a six speed gearbox so engine is not working hard at 60mph just 2000rpm where as the 1.6 often has the five speed gearbox and a small engine pulling a large vehicle has to be lower geared to do that, which means when driven on dual carriageways or motorways is working hard.
By the way, do not go for the 2.2 as not a good engine in my eyes!

Brilliant .. thank you so much for your answer - full of useful information, all of which I will use actually.. the vehicle I was possibly gonna look at is 5k .. 86 on the clock which is a little high considering the 2020 plate isn't it ?
Thank you so much for answering 😊

Working vans often have higher mileage than private cars. Although £5k is a lot to you and me , many salesmen consider it the banger end of the price range.
What ever you do I would urge you to take a knowledgeable person to inspect before purchase as I have seen people spend much higher amounts and still end up with problems. Also do your DVLA Mot check and look online for that model and any known issues.
I don't know what vehicle you are looking at but a small point to consider is it may be worth looking at Husseys Auction as local to you, if you did I would say only the vehicles that state "direct from local council/water/electricity board, etc." as usually they are regularly serviced and if they have a problem usually it is in the listing details, bear in mind commission charges and also Vat will be added to the "hammer price" and set yourself a limit to spend taking that in to account.
The reason I make this suggestion is, if you buy from a local dealer second hand then it has probably come from there anyway, polished and their profit added to the asking price.
I do say direct from and not a second or third user who has bought, abused and returned to auction.
The above is only a suggestion and remember "Buyer Beware".;)
