OK so I've had a heavy rear axle and leaf spring assembly lying around the drive for ages and decided I should dismantle it and make it more managable.

So today I took the leaf springs off and set about taking the brake assemblies off.
I have the drums off, the pads out, the cylinders off. Which just leaves the hub and the brake body to remove.

But I could not pull the hubs off. I gave up when my puller was bending and I hit my finger with my persauder. What am I missing here?
I have taken the small 10mm bolt out the centre.

I haven't taken off the 4 bolts that hold the brake assembly to the axle (2 are tricky as there's no room for a socket). But even with this off I would of thought the hub would still need pulled for it to come off?
To be honest i'm not convinced you need a puller, the assembly looks the same as the front and it doesn't need pulled, but the Porter Manual says it does...

Undo the 4 bolts from the back that hold the backplate and wheel bearing in place, the bearing assembly and backplate will then be free to move.
Pull the bearing assy out from the side of the car (this is a large 1 piece item, no bearings will fall out)
the shaft may come out when you take the bearing out.

Ps. No need to take off the brake shoes

Thanks, that make sense.

I just re checked my Porter manual and it does say to remove the 4 bolts before trying to pull the hub off the splines  RTFM...

Well I'll give it another go, just the 2 tricky to access bolts to worry about.
