Due the need to fit a rear bumper plastic protector for my Panda 100HP which is held in place with double sided adhesive tape, I need to remove the Superguard paint sealant..

Does anyone have a surefire way of removing the sealant which will allow the adhesive to bond sucessfully ?

Any sound practical advice most welcome. Ive tried white spirit and meths I managed to get quite high but the sealant is still proving difficult to remove completely ..

Jake.

check the bumper thread in the panda section i answered your question in that before you posted here ;)

use something like T-cut metallic (no where near as aggressive as the red original and leaves nothing behind so can be sprayed onto once buffed off)

or a solvent paint cleaner such as panel prep £15 ish for 5 ltrs

wouldn't worry about superguard been removed on the bumpers TBH then again there is a school of thought that it is crap for the money you pay for it when you can get more durable sealants from some of the car detailing company's

also to assist in bonding make sure the plastic trim/ tape/ bumper are all warm..

park it facing the sun for an hour or 2 then clean (the panel prep should flash dry((evaporate very quickly)) go over it several times with a new cloth each time to ensure maximum removal

I've used supagard and was pleasantly surprised by the results. I have one in the cupboard somewhere which I might use on my car if I ever get a chance to work on it.

Thanks to Andy ,
I hadnt considered T-cut so thats going to be worth a go, thanks again, helps when you get sound advice.

the red bottle is too harsh for most modern clear coated finishes (but it does have its uses)

thepottleflump:

I don't doubt its a good LSP BUT the claims made by come car dealerships seem a bit errr exaggerated

same with the other "lasts years" treatments offered by dealerships for £XXX's
