Hello,

If my understanding is well, remapping is like overclocking the car's control unit to increase the performance of the car ? please correct me if I am wrong!

If so is right, then I would like to know if it is possible for an official fiat service center to do anything about it like may be UNDERclock it *excuse me I'm an IT guy* as they say that I have a number of overrevs (going over 6000rpm) my car is a 1.4 8v GP, I can't identify my motor if either a T-Jet or M-Jet as there's no label on it, I can take a picture if someone could help identify it.

So the problem is after having a serious tiptronic clutch problem they changed it and now the car's acceleration is like 30% of what it was before doing that, I have the feeling that they limited underboosted the car to have a limited speed.

Thanks,
Ahmed Medhat

If its not mjet or tjet, what it is? stock motor?

Also beside remapping, wont it be possible to do any tuning like replacing the filter with a k&n one or adding a turbo?

Hi! I got on of them 1.4 8vs. It's one of the most basic engines you can get on a GP. I think - after 1.2 went into the history books - the 1.4 8v IS the basic trim.

Anyway, this is a normally aspirated engine. That is it does not have any "jets" attached to it. :) No turbos, no nothing. (It does have - I think - variable valve timing.)

The reason the acceleration with your - presumably - auto gearbox is slower than before may be due to the garage limiting the rate/speed with which the CPU operated clutch engages after a gear change. It may protect the clutch, but it surely makes you look like a snail.

Get it checked.

Mjet and Tjet are just names for engines like the 1.4 8v is.Tjet is 1.4 16v turbo, Mjet is 1.9 8v Diesel. You can replace filters yes but turboing you aint gonna spend 3k+ on doing it are you?

Anyway to check on my own ?

At the service center here in Egypt they are too restrictive and say everything is okay and are going to be okay, just get used to it besides the person I am sure messed this things up is pretending that I am using the car in some sort of Formul 1 races  and always running above 7000 rpms ((next time might say that I am taking the car in a diving trip)) is now in Italy taking a course and is not here to help.

All I'll say is don't quit your day job LOL.

Fiat's Automatics are notoriously bad and unreliable. Theres a member on here called "luvduvs" who has had a 2year saga with his.

And don't even consider trying to tune it, your loosing so much power having a stupid gearbox anything you gain will be very little anyway even worse on an auto.

Without spending ££££'s you not going to get much power again at all on a 1.4 8v.

Actually....no..I don't think so. You need to get it to a trust garage that's worthy of trust. Or just make a formal request that you want the gearbox ECU to be checked/restored to factory settings. And that you want written papers that they did this.

Then if it's still slow, have them check the clutch! Maybe - the clutch disc and plate are worn out.

It's NOT an automatic. It's a normal manual box (same as the normal 1.2/1.4) with electro-hydraulic clutch and gear shift control. It even has a normal clutch.

The Dualogic's are actually pretty damn good, very rare for any faults, and far superior to the Alfa Selespeed system. ;)

You can't "under clock" a Dualogic ECU. It has a default set of parameters and once the clutch biting-point is learnt (using Examiner) it self-calibrates and adapts for wear in the friction plate over time.

:yeahthat:

Might be rare for faults but doesn't mean it works properly lol.

Define "not working properly"? Most issues arise from customer's/Tech's not understanding the system. How many posts have there been asking "why does it beep when I leave it in neutral?", "what's this whirring noise when I open the door?", etc.

Hand on heart, we've sold LOADS of Dualogics without issues (mk2b Punto's, GP's, Panda's, Idea's, etc). They come in for a service, then we never see them until the next service. ;)
