dose anyone know if i can fit an 1.2 lump from the mk2 punto into my mk1 that was a 1.1 intill it bloow up thanks adrian

will have all that from old engine as long as the head is ok and not cracked it leaks water like mad and overheats , how a bout the wiring and ecu will that have to be swaped to?

engine all fitted in did not need to swap pump , pully or head .i have used the old ecu as the 1.2 ecu that came with the engine is locked out but it is hunting like hell on tick over any ideas wot to do?

You've got an air leak from somewhere on the inlet side or an over-tight throttle cable. Check the throttle cable -- there should be some free play before the throttle opens.

If that doesn't do it, get hold of some thin tubing (like windscreen washer tubing) use it as a stethescope to find the source of the hiss (yes, there will be a hiss).

If you didn't need to swap the head, you bought a Mk1 engine -- all Mk2s are MPI, all Mk1s SPI (except for the P75 and the 16v).

yeah it must have been from a mk1 engine is the same except its a 1.2 just have the problem with the ecu as its hunting .think i need to either bypass the imobelizer or get a transponder and have it coded to the car to get it to run not sure if its doing any damage running it on the 1.1 ecu or not u just look a tit when at the lights and it starts reving up and down people think u want to race lol

:yeahthat: double and triple check all the air lines are in the right place and not leaking. If that doesn't do it check the seal between the TB halves and the TB and inlet manifold. The ECU is literally the least likely culprit, that goes for just about everything that could ever go wrong with the car as well - I have had so many cinq/sei/punto's now and never ever have i had an issue with an ECU before, they just don't go wrong, period.
