I have a 2008 Ducato (x250). When refueling, the gas pump nozzle at the station keeps shutting off even though the tank is not full yet. The vent hose is open, and I have also tried inserting the nozzle less deeply and turning it. The Fiat dealership has no solution. Does anyone have tips?

I have 2008 x250 - when I first collected it I had this very issue - I took the filler neck and breather pipes apart and found a plastic nozzle/reducer inside the filler neck that I could find no reference to in any parts catalogue. I removed this and have had no issue since nor any problems caused by removing it.

Think I kept it - not sure why. I’m away in the van at the moment, cheeky trip to the coast, but will check when back and photograph it if it’s still in the garage just in case it helps you.

Although you mention a gas pump, I assume that your are referring to a diesel engined model. Diesel fuel foams inside the tank filling pipe and causes the pump to trip. When this happens you can reduce the rate of fuel flow and continuing filling. Normal recommendation is to stop refuelling at first cut off, so as to allow expansion space in the tank. However if you are not close to the end of a journey and are likely to consume several litres before stopping, then you could use your own judgement.

I guess you mean the connection of the rubber hose to the filler neck on the outside of the camper? Do you also have a Hymer? I’ve taken off that connection that’s held with a hose clamp, but didn’t see any plastic nozzle there. A photo would definitely help though. Thanks a lot for the effort and enjoy your trip!

I am aware of that. The tank does fill up, although it requires quite some effort. I would really appreciate being able to refuel as it normally should be. The FIAT Professional mechanic here has not found any restrictions in his documentation. Since I have a fully integrated motorhome, naturally, something has been modified at the filler neck.I am aware of that. The tank does fill up, although it requires quite some effort.
