what is the bottom line here guys?

Under what circumstances would the red key actually be required?

Seems a shame to lose the right car because it has no red key

???

the red key is the master key , basically if you need a spare key cut they use the red key to program it to the car

what car and year is it ...

steven didnt no it was you ,,

is it the 2000 model hgt i shown you,

if so they changed it on the 2000 model you dont need the red key on it , there is some numbers on the key, you take it to fiat and they charge an admin fee of £15 to get your code, thats it

as you no i have a 2000 plate hgt and i phoned my local fiat dealers and confirmed this

1999 or earlier you need a red key

year 2k bravo on a X reg, i have the red key thats needed, perhaps it was late 2000 when it got cahnged

All Bravos had Red Keys. My Bravo is a 2001 and has a Red Key. I recon the dealer was feeding you porkys if they said after 2000 there is no red key.

well there's 2 i'm interested in,

on e is a T reg so that will deffo need it yeah?
and the over is aX reg so that might not need it????

when is it actually needed though, is it just oif you need a new key cut? or can you have a new key made from the blue one if youve only got one blue one.

is it only if you lose all the keys?

when is it actually needed exactly??

cheers guys you lot seem to have all the ansers!

i no the main dealers he wont tell me porkys , ive still got my old keys off my 99 hgt an there different

Red key has nothing to do with getting keys cut. Its used to get a new blank blue key registered with your ECU, possibly reregister an old key too. Its the master key. If you loose both blue keys and you have no red key it'll cost you alot to get sorted unless you change everything from a donor car (which still wont me cheap).

If you loose your blue keys but have a red key, you can go on ebay buy some blank fiat transponder keys, get them cut either using the red key as a template or getting the code card from fiat with the key number on it, then register the new blue keys to your ECU using your red key.

Joske

that's very kind thanks for you detailed reply

camn i ask one last final question please -

If I have 1 blue key. but no red key. just oine blue key.

Can I then get a Second blue key cut and programmed without the red key or am I screwed and can only use the blue key I already have.

also, if the blue key I already have gets a flat battery or if i jus change the battery can it still work or does it need the red key to get it going again

when u change battery's the key does not need re programming

You can clone your blue key at a good key/lock smith i.e Timpsons. Approx £25. It will be a clone of the other blue key.

If you have an alarm key, then you cannot get a new alarm blue key from timpsons. Therefore it'll not work the alarm or central locking. It will work in the locks and start the car only. There is no battery in a cloned key as there is nothing inside but a transponder chip for the ECU.

yeah but what about a new alarm key from fiat?

if you want it to be dfuly functioning like the original blue key.
basically identical to the fully functioning blue key?

unless you have the alarm key codes...forget about it
as far as i know you cant clone the alarm function on the key. you need to know the key code to add a new key to the alarm

no code.....no alarm key

oh. But this 'Code' -

what's the deal if the key has the '2' stamped on it, indicating the later ECU that never came with the red key

Basically I'm talking about a Bravo with the '2' on the key.

But it only has one blue key.

And I want a second (fully functioning) blue key.

Is this possible?

i believe what i have said still stands if im honest

you need the alarm codes that would have been provided with the keys when the car was new

im in a sticky situation my self as i have the codes but the alarm just wont code to new keys :S

Alarm codes can be obtained easily. I know someone who can pull the codes from an existing working blue key.

Mines a Y plate 2001 same as joske's and I have the red master key. The dealer is either fibbing or has no idea and doesn't want to admit it.

Its next to impossible to fix the alarm issue you mention. You'd have to disconnect the factory alarm and fit an aftermarket one with a new remote.

Joske

ok, i need your advice on this one then :D were can i get that done as i need to clone my working blue key

does he know about the alarm system in general?

and were is he based :D
