Hi all, On my previous R Reg Marea 1.9TD, that I'm just about to Break for spares, the Red Master key & the secondary Blue key that belong to the car both unlock and start the car, like they should do.

But on my new R Reg Marea 2.0 20v, (the one's that belong to this car) the Secondary Blue key unlocks & starts the car, but the Red Master key only unlocks the car, doesn't disarm the immobilisor, just wondered why really.

Thanks
Rob:)

Where & How do I clone the Blue Key ??

I Just had a look at the keys to my 1.9TD Marea and both the Red & Blue keys have the little chip symbol on the blade of the key it's self, but on the Red & Blue keys to my 2.0 20v Marea, the Blue key has the symbol, the Red key does NOT. Ummmm !!!!!

Any thoughts now.

it sounds like you red key is a fake, but dont quote me on that. Ive never needed to use one afer 1 bravo and 2 marea's, so dont sweat it

To clone the blue Timpsons do it for about £20 and 10 minutes, my first 2.0 20v never had a red key and thats what i did.

cheers

I had an odd feeling when I bought the car, that the Red key to my 2.0 20v looked different to my other Red Key to my 1.9TD.

So if the Red Key does turn out to be a fake, my only key that starts the car is the Secondary Blue one, but Timpsons are in inner London, and I live on the Isle of Wight.
I'll post a pic today of both set's of Key's so you can have a look

So what would I look for when searching for a key cutter/Coding facility down where I live.

A little image, What do you think.

Guess which RED key is the fake !!! Maybe

well you can buy red key blanks ready to cut and code.if they just get cut and not coded and have no transponder then you get the situation you are in.

So if I buy one of those Red keys of Ebay, how do I know they have a transponder in, and if I do find one, will that key be exactly the same as the blue, just different colour. ??

Rob:eek:

Good Idea, It turns out that when I had a look in my Yellow Pages, I found 3 Locksmith's who specialise in vehicle key cutting & Coding, I'll give them all a ring today to see what they can do.

But what makes the Red Key the MASTER and the Blue key the SECONDARY, What's the difference inside them ?

Rob

someone else may be able to give you a better description but here goes.

the blue keys only start the car and unlock doors etc (sounds like i know what i'm talking about)(y)

the red key allows you to add and remove blue keys to the imobilliser (spelling?), such as replacing a lost blue key (still going well):D . It also unlocks the imbolizer (bloody spelling) and maybe also something else like the ecu for the abilty to do other things (alright i think we have left the limits of knowledge now)

That's exactly what I thought aswell.

I had that chat at my local Locksmith's, and he can clone my blue key for £20if I order a Fiat key off Ebay, So I did.

The bloke said it will be a first for him to clone a FIAT key, but he's going to give it a try anyway.

:D

if you can find one person on this forum who ever used the red key i would be amazed, let alone needed it to actually get the car fixed for more immobiliser or ecu work etc. Cue twenty post making me look a right charlie.

Just get the key cloned asap, otherwise your £20 will cost you a lot more.

I would buy a FIAT without a red key, i would just use ot to get the price down, which i did with my first Marea 20v(y)

It's funny you say that because with my previous Marea 1.9TD, my local Fiat dealer needed the Red Key, when the fuel pump fuse blew and that locked down the ECU, that little fuse and a diagnostic with labour cost me £210.00.

So that will explain why I'm worried about not having a Red key

But what annoys me, is that when I bought the car off Ebay, the garage said yes there is a Red Key, but of course didn't think to try it when testing the car before buying it that day, but now I Know that my Red key to my Marea 2.0 20V is a fake.

Oh well
:bang: Rob

yes red key is important for emergency starting and reprograming ECU or new blue key. without it, u have to change the whole ECU comes with a new red master key.

u don't need it if everything is fine.

The BIG Question is:

I'm Breaking MY PREVIOUS R Reg Marea 1.9TD100, all bits avaliable at the mo, But I still have the whole ECU, Locks, Barrels, Red/Blue Key etc but will all that work with my R Reg Marea 2.0 20V both 1997/1998 Models, but the 1.9TD is a Lucas system, and the 2.0 20V is a Bosch system.

Your Thought's
