Is the Red non-metallic colour used on Pandas the same since the car was first released?
If I'm looking for body panels do I have to worry about paint codes when going to a scrap yard or if it looks like a non-metallic red, it'll be the same colour code as mine.

Simple answer NO!

The non met red was changed about a year ago, from Rumba Red to Pasodoble Red, but it seems they both use the same paint code (could be wrong)

Hope this helps

The name is Rossa Sfrontata and it is the same red as used in the 500. On the 500 it is considered a metallic option and therefore more expensive than on the Panda where it is an extra serie same as the old red. The new one is darker and seems to be less subject to fading in sunlight although that could be to with the age of previous coloured cars. I think the change was from summer 2007 together with the red badges but I may be wrong, my car was built in Feb 2008 and has the new colour.

just to clarify my comments. rossa sfrontata is the original name in italian, it's the one mentioned on the id plate on the car although pasadoble red is the english translation.

It isn't metallic but pastel extraserie - what i meant to say was that the price on the 500 is the same as for metallic options whereas on the panda it is cheaper than the metallics. Sorry for any confusion it was a long day.

cost. i remember when my brother bought his mk2.b punto new, it was going to cost ~£300 more to have it done in yellow or one of the other 'special' colours, but the blue was 'free'

 I cost special and metalic cost, and metalic is obviously a metalic finish :p

But what is a 'Special' Paint? Whats Special about it

I asked a dealer this same question and his reply was that "the extra serie red paint was treated to prevent fading in sunlight unlike those nasy Hyundai or Audi reds". I would not like to say whether that is true or not. In the 100Hp's case all colours except white are a cost option. I do like the new red more than the old one as it is a little darker but I need to see how it fares in 3 or 4 years time after sitting in the street in the spanish sun all day. Perhaps I will have to sell it to a pink panther fan....

I may be wrong here, but I think the 'special' red (there's a special black too!) is a two-part paint (ie it has a clear lacquer coat, like the metallics do) so it has more 'depth' of shine. My red 4x4 shows no sign of fading (its 4 years old) and comes up to a great shine with nothing more than a quick wash now and again. (Bought 2nd hand -- not sure I'd have paid more to have the colour otherwise)
