Recovering a broken down car

What options do I have for recovering a broken down car?

I'd like to pay less than what I'd get scrap value. Options, opinions, personal experiences please!

Your options depend on distance. A friend towing is the cheapest option although joining the AA or RAC may be an alternative or even a friend with breakdown cover getting the RAC or AA, Green Flag etc to recover it.

Get a cheapo breakdown cover. With some firms, they don't allow you to claim within 24 (?) hours of registering, but if your car's been away for a while now...

Alternatively, do you have any mates with AA cover (?) I believe they cover the driver, not the car

Alternatively, you mention scrap value, why not google a few local (to where the car is now) scrappies to see who'd give you the best deal then arrange a pickup when convenient. Saves moving it twice etc

Got it back now. The brother in law happened to be free, and has brought it back on a car trailer on the back of his monster truck.. Not sure if it's a Hilux or something like that.
