Hi Guys & Girls,

Sorry to say iam not computer minded lol, but i do try my best :) , but iam beat, and looking for help please,

Long story but i try and keep it short and sweet.......

My XP PC that Ive had for yearsssssss to put it polity has got very slow,so i thought i would reboot using the recovery disc as Ive done before using the recovery disc, now all is well....well pleased,

This is where it all went wrong...Argh!

So the reboot was successful,so i got started i downloaded Firefox and started updating windows...as you do,which all went well until it installed service pack 3 or Firefox became my new browser of choice?for some unknown reason it said that the XP operating system needed to be be validated when on the windows update page,so i followed the on line instructions then i just get a white black screen as if the next page doesn't load?then on one occasion i think it said?, that i wasn't using a legal copy....WTF........I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW THAT IT IS!,AS THIS PC WAS BOUGHT FROM PC WORLD MANY MANY MOONS AGO,

So now i can't seem to go any further with regards to updating and keeping my system up to date?,

It all seems to be working as it once did.......much more responsive than it was....that's for sure,BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO GET ROUND TO VALIDATING MY WINDOW XP OPERATING SYSTEM USING MY PRODUCT PASS KEY,

Can anyone please shed some light on this for me,ITS CRACKING ME UP!,

Cheers Don

I honestly can't see there being a virus after a reboot but i guess its possible?,

I don't think i have?that said that is ringing bells?,i may have?,leave it with me and I'll go and download it and see whats what,i got the service pack 3 by doing it through the windows update procedure, this is whats confusing me why let me have service pack 3 then tell me it can't be validated?

Cheers Don

I'd be pretty surprised if you still had a virus after nuking it and re-installing. It's really hard to say what is causing the problem but if it is an on-line validator tool (i.e. something that just runs in the browser) then you could try using Internet Explorer just in case it's Microsoft being funny over Firefox.

Shut It! :) ......lmfao,i was having a bad day Andi!

UPDATE,

Right,

What Ive done this morning is Napam the system again! lmfao, yes i used the reboot disc..... again,so ive just went through another 4 hrs of update downloads using just IE update system, which iam pleased to say all went well!,until it downloaded service pack 3 through the update system then after a restart on the next update it downloaded which was this bloody "Geniune Advantage Validation Tool",and when iam promted to run it i just get a blank white screen and it dosen't load the they way it should???,so iam now left in limbo so to speak with regards to updating the system.......Iam Beat!,

I had a laptop that ran XP but it died (hard drive failure), don't even know if we've still got any of the XP stuff here, as the main computor we had ran XP as well.
I also had a laptop running vista, same fate as the one running XP.
Now have a laptop running windows7.

I'll ask my step-dad see if we've still got the old XP software discs kicking about.
