I'm replacing the rear suspension arms, mainly because some bushings are really worn and I might as well replace the whole thing. Typically I guess no alignment adjustments should be needed but I've looked up how to do that according to the Haynes manual, but it doesn't say what those shims are. Size, thickness, nothing. Anyone? Just washers?

Sorry I was hoping some with with current experience on this job would reply.:)
Generally I would mark the position of any suspension mounts and then if you are simply replacing rubber bushes, fit new in the same position in the suspension arms, then refit suspension in same position that you have already marked and that should be that.
If when disturbing suspension you found any washers/shims then I advise replacing then in the same position you removed them from and that should be that.
If possible ideally final tighten suspension with vehicle on the ground so suspension bushes are in their natural/normal position when on the road.
The reason for marking mounting points is sometimes they have a larger hole than the bolt so best to fit same position as it came out, unless you were experiencing odd tyre wear.
Often the marks the washers and bolts make will show where it normally sits.:)
