Personally I am not a great fan of rear disc brakes.
1\ Due to inertia most braking effort is on the front brakes, so not a lot of benefit in stopping the car. Try stopping a bicycle quickly only using the rear brake compared to the same using the front brake.
2\ Handbrakes on discs tend to be less effective (Citroen amongst others had cars rolling away due parking with brakes hot, the disc cooled down and contracted, lost brake effort and car rolled away) Which is why they went to electronic hand brakes on discs.
I appreciate it is simpler to change rear disc pads than shoes, and there may be a weight saving.
However my chosen option is were there are rear brake discs with a mechanical drum brake inside the disc for the handbrake operation, such as on some Saabs , Volvo, Iveco Daily, etc.
