General Rear socket/'Follow me home' lights

Hi,

With regards to follow me home headlamps, we have the super vis pack on our car, so not sure if following applies if you don't:
- the auto on left stalk is depressed to turn on auto headlights; this is a one-time operation.
- never need to touch the light switch again, apart from full beam.
- when turn car off, lights remain on until either you lock the car or after a couple of minutes!

I thought there was something in the manual about how to use them if you don't have auto lights. Not to hand at the mo to check!

Stuart

Lou have you got the follow me home headlamps fitted on yours as mine seem to be missing as well as the bands and the two 12v sockets. Why don't they just tell you when you collect the car that their has been a change in the spec. And I have noticed that the women behind the dash likes to say sorry more and more, you end up at the traffic light shouting at her to call home and you can’t help swearing at every sorry she says, makes you look like a proper headcase I think that PEUGEOT put her their as a punishment for buying fiat. Anyway I hope to have the rear socket fitted in my car on Monday and I am going to have a grumble about the follow me home headlamps and see if I can get them fitted too. Well you can but try lol.

James,
my car should have "follow me home headlights" but as fiat said when I told & showed them that they are not there " we have a small problem with them on your car as they are not there!!! dont know what to do as it`s a misbuild"

Paul

They drive you mad Paul, I had the same problem with Vauxhall when after 8 weeks the paint started to bubble on my zafria it was the start of a 3 year fight with them as more and more faults appeared I gave up in the end and sold the car and got my Ulysses’. At the moment fiat seem to be a lot more on the ball when you report a fault but I guess that it will be a losing battle to get them to fit the missing spec from our cars as they can just use the, we can revise the spec at any time line. At the moment my dealer is going to fit the rear socket on Monday and I will point out the headlights then and see if he will retro fit them, here’s hoping lol

True enought James, However when even a "standard" item which is on even the base model is missing then something must be done!

I mean I am already waiting for the parts for my rear socket, new light lens all round & other bits & bobs!

Let me know how you get on James?

Thanks

Paul

Hi,

I would have thought the follow me home headlights are a body computer programming fault. I can't see that you need any hardware to add this feature as the car has multi-plex wiring to the body computer. I think that many of the options are on all models but simply not enabled on the lower spec.

Hopefully they can just activate it.

Poggy

I would have thought this too except that the manual seems to suggest you can activate it by pressing the lighting stalk towards the dashboard and mine does not move at all in that direction. So it seems it is also parts fitted related, or in this case not fitted.

Hi Poggy

The follow-me-home headlights do need a extra slot on the stalk which you can press towards the windscreen & it`s not just a multi-plex system which can be turned on.

This wednesday I`m seeing the service manager of my dealer to find out what is going to be done

Paul

Have you tried pulling back the lighting stalk when the engine is off as if to put main beam on?

My last car (BMW) had the follow me home feature and it worked this way.

regards, Keggers

I've checked through the glossy brochure, and dealer price-list, and can see nothing that documents 'follow-me-home' headlights. I don't have a lighting stalk that pushes towards the windscreen. There's also a note in the manual (page 75 in my copy) that says.....

If the vehicle is fitted with the side-light and dipped-beam headlight automatic switching on device, the "follow me home" function is automatically activated when the doors are opened.

So, who has automatic lights - I do, and the lights behave as described in the manual - I guess the manual switch on the stalk is only there if you don't have auto-lights (visibility pack).

John

I tried Keggers suggestion as it was suggested by the dealer but no luck. If you don't have the super visibility pack which I do not then pushing the stalk towards the dashboard is one way of activating it.

Lou

John/Lou/all,

I do have vis-pack on mine, and auto lights, but I only seem to ever get dipped-beam or nothing i.e. sidelights are not even an option. Have you or anyone else noticed this?

By the way, I do have a lighting stalk as well, cos when I pressed it in originally, telematics said automatic lights now activated. And it does this everytime ignition switched on.

Stuart

Auto lights only seem to be dipped-beam or nothing. If you want side lights, you need to turn them on manually!

I've noticed the lights seem to have a hard time doing the right thing this time of year though - I found myself manually overriding the sensor a few times during the holiday period!

I like them best when you go under a bridge [but not too fast] - lights come on, then off within seconds - the car in front thinks you are flashing them!!!! Useful...

Stuart

I've not had that one happen yet, but I can see how it would be a pain!

I've got to a point where I don't always rely on auto-lights!

Got my rear socket fitted today and had a moan about the "follow-me-home headlights"was told that they had to reset my software to make them work so will book in when i have a day free.

Hi everyone

here is the latest in the "follow me home" lights saga

I was told today by my dealer that even though it`s a "standard" item across the range of cars, Unless you ask for it you wont get it!

I said I fill this is a mad way of working since standard means standard on all models not just if you request it!

Also when they say that they can "turn them on by a software update" it`s wrong since they are a mech build into the car

Let me know how the rest of you are getting on with this

Paul
