And while you're at it - how about the same in the Dundee/Forfar area. (Scottish link) :)

Any ideas of cost as well? I've done a search and people have paid between 150 and 1000 depending on who does what.

i gave up and sold the car (as the gearbox started to make funny noises)

on paper it looks easy but is an absolute mare.

a couple of people who offered on here to do mine worked on agricultural machinary, so it maybe worth looking for someone like this as they usually have a hydraulic press big enough

Hi all,

My dad's Stilo Multiwagon makes a loud crashy thud on the o/s rear when going over ruts, potholes etc so I assume this is the rear bushes problem. Do any of you guys know a place in Merseyside that can change these?

I've just had a quote from Fiat and they want £69+VAT to diagnose and a further £240 - £300 + vat for labour. Plus the cost of the parts. My dad is nearly 80 and can't really afford to pay out a lot. Any suggestions would be helpfull.

Regards

It is a labour intensive job 4-5 hours, the parts are £16ish per bush plus the new bolts and nuts to make it easier about £38 all in if I remember.
I had mine looked at by an independant but they wern't sure if they'd be able to refit the new bushes without damaging them as they hadn't done a stilo before.
I had mine done by fiat at £365 labour but the difference is amazing, it really feels like a new car and is much tighter in the bends.

There a lot of threads about DIY but I didn't fancy it even though I'm confident with cars and having done the brakes, suspension, strutbrace all myself.

You might just have to bite the bullet i'm afraid.

i just done the bushes on my own this weekend on our mw. yes it is a real pig of a job especially getting the old ones out, i ended up losing my temper with it and burned them out - then cut though the outer casing.
the new bushes were supposed to be pressed in (which is pathetic considering its a car and not a bus or a train) how i overcame this was to use my angle grinder on the outside of the casing and effectively hone the outside until it fitted much easier. i then put grease all inside the bush and gently pushed it in with a rubber hammer.
personally i would do this job again now ive found a workaround but tbh its not an easy job. the removal of the axle is the eay part, i had the axle on the floor within an hour, but spent an further 5 replacing the damned things.
even after honing the bushes are now quiet and the car feels much better.

Can be done with ordinary tools about 5 hrs diy

I am still looking ffor someone or somewhere to do this for me in the Edinburgh / Lothian area as I do not feel at all confident attempting this myself.

Any ideas?
