Ok so I took my wife and children to the cinema last night, when we came out and got in the car and started it, this knocking noise started from the engine, it was slow at first and got faster and louder until I turned the engine off.

I rang my mechanic and he said it sounds like it could be a con rod gone!

anyone else had this problem or know anything about this? :bang:

Thanks

Yes it has oil in......or does it? I'd better check it did have oil about 2 weeks ago but have been really busy with wife being 8 & half months pregnant.

I'm nowhere near the car to check it ATM, do you mean con rod may have broke because of no oil? Or that the knocking could be due to no oil?

Took the kids to see the Lego movie which was quite funny, ok in the light of day, it's the crank pulley sheared off, my mechanic needs to know, correct torque setting, is it left or right hand thread & is the bolt a stretch bolt? As he's never done this job on a multipla before

4 small bolts fix it in place, not a large central one. I think they're std right hand thread. You can get new pulleys off ebay c/w the 4 bolts, of which this is just one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-MULTIPLA-1-9-JTD-DIESEL-01-02-CRANKSHAFT-CRANK-PULLEY-BOLTS-NEW-MODIFIED-/301095646736?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AMultipla&hash=item461ab2f610

Check the part number against your existing one before you buy. Your main problem will be extracting what's left of your old bolts. There's an access panel that removes from the inside of the wheel arch which will make the job a whole lot easier. Check what caused the pulley to shear in the first place - are any of the ancillaries the belt drives seized? Also, check that the aux belt didn't do any damage to the timing belt cover, or the timing belt underneath it.

Autodata says 23-25Nm.

eLearn also says 25 Nm (or 2.5 daNm !) for JTD
