re profiled cams

re profiled cams

I'll pitch in here with a little general advice

1) any reground cam is likely to have significantly dug into the original case hardening.
2) any reground cam should be suitable retreated and case hardened
3) often reprofile cams require or will require the cam carriers (Fiat monocam and twin cam engines of the 80's and 90's) to be skimmed to ensure correct valve tappet clearances
4) skimmed cam carriers are useless junk when/if reverting to producton standards. More importantly original cam carriers will be long obsolete!

If you are a motor sport track/rally racer and spending money for performance then do what you have to. Everybody else should take extreme care.

So, you should be able to get it bored out. Jenvey have been good about supplying folk with bigger butterflies. I've no idea what size the original is, but folk have used 48mm Dell'Orto TB's on those engines retrofitted to Cinqs and Seis, ditching the FBW junk and using aftermarket ECUs.

I always thought that of the 1.4 16v N/A engines, only the 500 ECU was re-programable 'cos no-one had released the codes for the others?

Be aware that it seems that the N/A engines throw rods at around 140bhp.
