My 3 year old 4x4 has no rattles. This may be because it has been well-assembled. It is also possible that the cause is my slight deafness as a result of riding motorcycles in the days when we had not heard of using earplugs.
However I do hear the reassuring clunks from the rear suspension and transmission. Reassuring? Well yes, these mechanical noises kind of tell me that things are working at the rear of the car.
Since I fitted new rear brake pads I no longer hear the squeaks from the rear brakes. In addition the car is quicker and the fuel consumption better, so those old squeaky pads were also binding a bit.
Sometimes the noises a car makes are a part of its character, how it communicates with you and a reason you love it. That's why I could never love those quiet, sleek, grey or silver painted, slug-like German cars.
