Hi, I bought a new radio (head unit, stereo, whatever) this past weekend. This is my first car, so I'm not too savvy with all this stuff yet, but basically after taking the stock (Blaupunkt) radio out, I found the stock loom was wired up differently to the iso adapter that came with said radio. Anyway, I've moved the red lead in the adaptor to what I believe is the corresponding pin in the cars loom, and the thing turns on. But only when the car is completely off ie. Engine off, keys not turned in ignition. When I turn the keys, the radio turns off, and wont come on again until I turn it back off. Could this just be that it's wired into a running circuit backwards and its got some sort of diode etc in it? I've tried flipping the red and yellow wires on the adaptor, but this just meant it wouldnt turn on at all. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it? Thanks, if I've been unclear just tell me and I'll try to be more specific.

10 minutes eh
takes me 10 minutes just to safely feed the wire to the cig lighter after ive braided it in washer pipe then another 5 minutes soldering it to the main feed to the lighter
plus of course the kerfuffle taken to remove the centre section of dashy
i suppose your man chopped in somewhere else? why not take some pictures and do a ten minute fix your mk2b radio guide?
i for one am always looking for decent shortcuts(y)(y)

He wired from somewhere behind the steering wheel and fuse box straight up to behind the stereo I will take a pic tomorrow as I'm in work at the moment

I've just fed a wire from the cigarette lighter up to the back of the stereo. Snipped the pin3 ( red/white) for switched live and joined to this new cable.

Radio ( and Parrot Phone Kit ) now switch off with ignition
but the radio loses its presets

any ideas ( apart from cr*p stereo? )

thanks in advance

So i had this issue and its a simple fix, remove all of the tim from the middle of the car, locate the loom that plough into the back of the 12v socket, undo the tape on the loom, cut the cable and add some cable and wire this upto the back of the head unit, cut the power wire which is red on the car however may be different on you radios wiring loom, my JVC loom had a line wired in all ready, JVC we love you :):):), i then cut that cable in half and did the same thing but this time ran a cable all the way to the boot under the carpet and this serves a remote on for my amp which powered my sub which are all JBL.

if you are new to all this it can be very daunting but its easy when you know what to do, i finished up by wrapping my new loom in tape, this consisted off my amp power from the firewall, RCA from the radio, radio remote cable, sub remote cable and along the way the 12v cable joins in. if you have a 12v socket in the boot you can wire you amp remote from this.
