Radio looses memory of stations and other settings when ignition is switched off

Changed OEM radio but the new one looses memory after ignition is turned off!

That is to say, any stations it has memorised, along with BASS and TREBLE settings, etc, all dissapear / are wiped clean when ignition is turned off.

I've checked the power cables and the RED cable (permanent power) is where it is supposed to be at (on my radio the pin is classified as "+12V (memory)" ) or N. 7

The ORANGE cable (Ignition) is also where it should be at (on my radio the pin is classified as "+12V (Ignition Key)" or N. 4

I wonder if I should swop orange and red around to see what happens.... is that wise?

PS what is the Ignition cable / pin good for anyway? Should I perhaps DISCONNECT it?

Yes, swap both cables. I know the labels make it seem as if you've got it right etc, but yea you do need to swap them over. I had the same issue on my mk2 1.6 sx

where are the wires?

i know theres 2 black pins but.. which wires are you talking about as i have the same problem thanks

The wires run into a plug that fits into the radio. I think its a standard plug. Best way, in my view, is to simply CUT the red and orange and swap them that way

Ian i had this problem and posted up here,i was told to swap the red and yellow wires,the ones that have the bullet like male and female connectors with the clear rubber sleeve over them.

swap them over and will sort it out.

thats IF you have bullet connectors. My sorry excuse for a headunit didnt have them, so had to bodge it with electrical tape. its all good lol.

Solved

Yup, didn't have bullet thingy either so it was scissors and tape for me as well. It worked fine! (in my case there was no yellow wire : I swapped red with orange). Cheers
