Hi,

Can someone give me some guidance please, I would like to fit a radio in my new(2010) motorhome. The vehicle is a Fiat Ducato X250 2.3 multivalve. I can see where it goes, but is it just a case of pulling the blanking plate out or is there some cunning and hidden fixings.

Thanks
Stewart

Hi,
It is just a matter of pulling out the dummy shelves (blanking plates). They should come out without using any tools at all. If you are fitting a dual DIN unit, you will need an adapter plate to fit in the opening. Not sure if one is needed for single DIN units.

You may also have to cut away some fixings that are used to secure the dummy shelves in place. For dual DIN you definitely have to.

Keep in mind that the red and yellow power wires are backwards on the Ducato, you need to swap them to have "memory"-power to the radio when ignition is off.

I have just fitted a dual DIN 'naviciever' unit in mine. It was a tight fit, so I had to cut away some material inside the dash to make room for the wires coming out from the back of the radio. I also unscrewed the cover that sits on top of the dash and left it off during installation. Will use dual sided tape or velcro to secure it again, for now it is just loose.

Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks for the very informative reply. It is just a single din unit so shouldn't have any problems. If I find any further problems will post for others.

Thanks again

Hi Guys,

Next problem is the radio only plays when ignition is on. Checked the supply wires and both are correct as per radio diagram. I gather this is correct can someone tell me if it is possible to wire in so radio plays when ignition is off.

Thanks
Stewart

Stewart,
That is correct, there is no acc. setting on the ignition switch on the Ducato. However you can connect both the red and the yellow wire from the radio to the red one coming from the Fiats ISO connector to have power all the time.

On mine I fitted at 3-pole switch inside the central lockable compartment. The switch will either feed permanent 12V (red from car) or switched 12V (yellow from car) to the red cable for the radio. The intention is that I normally keep the radio switched by the ignition key, but have the option of powering it when parked.

On a camper it might be even better to take the permanent power from the secondary battery so you do not risk draining the starter battery.
