I have a Punto Eleganza that is just under a year old and the radio/CD player has gone already. When listening to the radio, it sometimes switches to CD even though none is present! The unit also comes on by itself, I've come back from wherever, gone to get in the car and found the switched on!

Now I've either gone mad (possible) or something is wrong with the device. It's a Blaupunkt (however you spell it) thingy.

Now the car is still under warranty but the dealership has to send the radio off to be repaired.

My next question is I wouldn't mind fitting another device, one that plays MP3, etc but I am worried about having it fitted. The dashboard seems to look like it's specially designed for the standard stereo and if I have one fitted, will it invalidate my warranty?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

no worries there.you can source a fitting plate(i assume the dash is the same for mk2 and 2.5)which fills the gap and leaves a standard DIN sized slot.
i would have tohught on a sub 1 year old car the ealer could have got another unit to put in while your was being checked/repaired.
punto guys will confirm on the plate, dont see why it would be a warrenty problem

Thanks for the replies

As for fitting a device, can this be done by any garage or do I have to go to FIAT?

Okay, I've seen a stereo I want but it looks completely different from the standard unit, i.e. it doesn't even have the two knobs at either end. How does that fit into the dash without looking daft.

Excuse my ignorance about such matters.

the whole of the current radio pulls out in one big lump the plastic around all teh conrtols is all part of the exiting radio and comes out with it leaving a large hole. you then get this plastic adaptor plate that you just push into the hole. this then fills the gap up neatly so it looks like it cmae with car and leaves a square slot that your new after market radio slides into. have up loaded two pics for you. one is a radio casete punto original removed you can see how much comes out with it. and second is a pic of the adaptor that you push into the whole. leaving a square slot for new radio. they cost about £9

That's answered my questions, thanks a lot all that replied.

I have one other question though, what reasonably priced system do people recommend and the Punto apparently has a 6 speaker system but most stereos come with 4x50W or whatever. Will I have to sacrifice a couple of speakers (mind you the ones near the front pillars are probably not much cop)

Thanks

nope they will still work. they are only tweeters i belive and take ther signal from the same feed as the other 2 front speakers. so will still work. as for what to go for depends what you want it to look like. also watch out for ones that have a motorized front that slides down as sometimes they dont fit properlyt in a mk2 and cant slide down enough.
