Hi guys having a bit of an issue here and was wondering if anyone could point out what has gone wrong.

I installed an aftermarket radio with front speakers, after having done this the radio will no longer work. It can only pick up a few stations wtih heavy static.

The audio plays fine via CD/USB and since the problem occured I've tried putting back the factory radio using preset radio stations which don't work either.

I did blow the fuse for the radio during the installation, this fuse is now replaced but could this of effected anything?

thanks

Hello mate welcome to the forum, I also installed an aftermarket radio and lost a fair few radio stations. Have you by any chance also changed the aerial also to a small stubby one? The only remedy really was to install a radio aerial booster:

It solved all of my problems and I get a lot more stations than I ever did with the stock head unit and long aerial!

Regards
Stephen

At the back on the standard stereo in the bottom, right hand corner... Do you know what that is please?

Also can these signal boosters be installed on the standard stereo

Thanks

Can't see from here. Got a pic?

The signal booster is installed in the aerial cable, it is not installed to the stereo. Any stereo with an electric aerial output will power it. It uses this power supply so that it is live, only when the stereo is on.

Thanks, would it be difficult to link in to the power supply?

Thanks

Look again at the link from post #2 . You will see a silver housing with a short aerial cable from each end, one male the other female. Also a blue lead and connector.

The aerial cable currently plugged into the back of the radio has a male end, so this goes in to the female connector of the booster. The male end of the booster goes into the radio.

To power it, the blue connector goes into the 8-pin plug in the back of the radio, to the electric aerial position. Hopefully your radio either has a label on it showing the connection positions, or a leaflet/handbook showing it. Explaining which one here is difficult as there will be confusion as to whether we are looking at the back or front of the connector block.
When the radio is turned on, it supplies 12v to the electric aerial connection. If there is an electric aerial, it will wind itself up. This stays live all the time the radio is on. Most cars have roof aerials now, but this connection is provided and is live, so it is used instead to power the booster. The radio will then power the booster any time the radio is turned on.

Does this now make sense? Although it may not be the answer to your original problem.
