Hi all,

I am currently racing my 1300cc fiat uno Mk1 at our local dirt track in Malta. My main problem for now is the fact that the car won't start at all when hot:mad:. When the engine is still cold it turns over ok. Timing and battery power are not an issue since they have been tested.

I would like to know if there are any high torque starters available for the uno or if there is the possibility of having my started modified.

Cheers

Yes, when it is warm, it turns over slowly, when hot, it gets even worse and turns painfully slowly. I have tried retarding the timing and using two batteries but it is useless. I need a more powerful starter I guess.

It is unlikely to be your starter. This is a power delivery issue. Most likely is a poor earth. If you aren't familiar with electrics this might sound odd, but sometimes earth points get worse with temperature and resistance becomes very high. perhaps in your testing you have found that the cables coming from your battery get hot, yet the motor is only turning slowly. You should check the large power and earth cables around your engine bay. Try taking them off and cleaning up the terminals and areas around the terminal in general. Convince yourself that there is a good clean connection with plenty of surface area for contact.
