Quick(ish) cheap car?

Since the punto will be off the road permanently from 21/10/10 i'll need to replace it.

want something for £600ish, same size as the punto, easyish to work on, and cheap to run, something a bit quicker than the punto, had 2 8v FIRE engine'd puntos and they're just not fast enough

any ideas? i keep finding myself looking at MK2 sportings but they're overpriced i rekon.

should of said it has to be small ish too as the GF is picky, when i say quickish i mean more than 60bhp, 80bhp would be enough i've seen a few VTR's going for a few hundered quid but she doesn't like them.

yeah i've been looking at a few 1.25 16vs but those also seem a bit pricey, driven one for a month a couple of years ago, also driven a 1.3, rough as *** i thought.

also looked at cinqs/sei's but they're a bit gutless/small and me and the GF do a fair bit of long distance driving

be too 'old looking' lol. cars for both of us so we both gotta aggree

looking into damage repairables, since i've got a couple of weeks till the MOT runs out and a garage to keep the car in

yeah, looked at those too, JTD's seem rare but a 16v would do nicely.

would idealy like another 1.2 8v FIRE punto now i think about it, no timing belt worries, i know my way around that engine like no other and i'd have plenty spares
