needing help on the alternator wiring anyone know which wire goes to what points on the alternator and starter :D ive forgotting which is which during the engine swap :D

ive got the workshop manuals but they are a bit cack to actualy pinpoint which wire is which :D

Steve would be the best man to ask, as the sei is different to the cinq. The cinq has a different loom for the alternator and starter.

But, if is simile then try the following ,( this is all i rememebr)

Big thick black wire to the starter (should be the biggest spade connector)
Small thin wire to alternator, which controls the battery light on dask. (small plug type)
small red wire, which goes onto the alternator.

The last be to the starter, i think this is like 2 wire climped together.

From what i could figure the spade on the thin wire went to the starter solenoid, doest sound right though, maybe the battery lights a decent shout, need to look at it in person again

Quite annoying, thats all thats really holding things up now :(

I think i have a wiring diagram, will see if i can make sense of it.

yeah the small wire is around 6 inches in length thats whats confusing us :D can see where it goes really :D

Hmm there is another one in that area, which goes into the a temp sensor on the head that tun the "over-heating light" on in the sei.

yup, we have that one wired up :) was just the order of the alt and starter wiring that was a bit confusing, especially as the colours arent uniform

mine never looped one to the other but some cinqs do so you could be right. grab a pic so we can double check....

starter has a small thin one to the solenoid with a spade connector on the end. and obv a big fat one with a loop on for the main one.

alternator wise its self explanitory, big for big and small for small.

the starter solenoid for me came straight fromt he wiring loom not battery, it is possible that the main starter power could come straight off the main from the alt which also goes to the bat (how early 1.1 cinqs run it). means they use 1 wire with the alt half way down it.

aye, it's strange, but when you think about it theres no other way for the alternator to get power to the battery if it wasn't connected that way

the sei looms seemingly very different to the cinq, we had a look there and where the sei has single wires in some areas, the cinq has a big fat loom with wires going in different directions

strange haha

bloody fiat electricals :D

oh got a funny thing pop up on the bravo yesterday :D

dashboard warning came on the screen saying "radiator coolant temp too high please shut down engine" haha its the first time its been started all weekend so temp is cold :D dodgy italians :D

I have lost love with the new Italian myself :( .

As for the alternatot to the battery that is true, but rememebr the seicento have a one off loom, where the cinq has a seqarate loom for the alternator and starter.

Get some pics up :)

my dads gp has extreme coolant temp warning on a -4 day last christmas. was the start of a LONG line of electrical problems.

trust me on this one, beleive me or not but take your battery to get tested! fiat say that warning is from a drop in voltage from the bat (usually when cold) but if dropped for a while can mess up some sensors (as my dads did and its never been right since) if its on its way out save yourself and swap the battery, seriously worth checking.
