Q about BMC carbon induction kit....

Does anyone know if i could use this induction kit with a custom alloy pipe like Tom has-or do i have to use a piece of rubber hose to connect it? In Nige's advert it states prices for the appropriate peice of samco hose needed. Just wondered if i could loose power or get better/worse flow by using a rigid metal pipe. Its for a 1.8HLX btw.

Opinions appreciated.
