Styling putting the fan on a switch-how?

what i mean is can i actually use one of them relays, will it work with one? will put it near the original thermostat unless you recommend putting it in a differant place

as long as its rated correctly (is it 10 amps you need?) then it will be fine. all relays do the same job.

ive just started it

does it matter which connection i attatch the wire from the thermostat the the relay (there are about 5 prongs on the relay

so to re cap

wires from thermostat to relay, then one from the relay to the switch and another too the switch from a 12v source. yeah?

A relay is a remote switch. You need to put the two wires from the temp sender to the switched side of the relay. There will be a diagram embossed onto the relay with all the pins numbered.

On the switching side, you can either switch live or switch to earth.

Switching live, you take a fused 12V feed to your switch, then to the relay with a short loop to earth on the other switching pin.

or

take a fused live to the relay, then a return to the switch and then to earth.

sorted now, thanks for the reply and all the info though.

split the wires ran it to the switch and a neutral to the switch (if that makes sense )

Daddy fixed it!

Just helped my dad (well . . . . . when i say "helped", i mean stand back arms folded on the drive as he drilled hole in dash for switch, then he routed wires through and connected everything up and then secured it and proofed it all . . . . . . oh yeah and he adjusted me clutch for me as well) do it. Got this really cool retro switch on the dash. Dad wants to make me up a new one up for me but i really like it. Will show pics of it when i nick girlfriends digital camera and i post pics of my Cinq in the main forum.
