Help !!!

My Daughter has a 52 Plate Punto with about 48K miles on the clock.

Recently its developed a strange Wobble or Vibration in any gear at around 30 - 45 MPH - The front end wobbles side to side especially under load or going up hills. The more people in the car the worse it is.

We have tried almost everything to eliminate the problem.
Swapped wheels front to back, run the spare, changed the drive shafts, swapped the gearbox - twice, new clutch, engine mounts, etc etc.

The car has been kerbed on the nearside so this week went to the scrap yard an bought a new suspension leg, wishbone, hub and driveshaft for the nearside hoping that might clear the problem but not yet !!!

Any one any ideas - we are now at a loss,

Thanks in anticipation.

Hiya!

I had a similar problem, I went and had the wheels re-alligned and balanced and that made it 10times better :)

hope that helps

Thanks for that ...... But done that already.

Am going to try swapping all the wheels and tyres off another Punto and see if it makes any difference ....

This is my last throw of the dice ... after that I am at a complete loss ...

Anyone else got any suggestions please.

Thanks

Not really mechanically minded but my mate had a mk1 punto that did this, seemed there was some play in the steering rack or something like that, surely things like that are tested for during an MOT, whens it due? If not soon i would take it to a garage and let them see to it. Steering and suspension problems are too dangerous to just ignore.

My dad has a 2003 VW golf. His was wobbling/vibrating at around 50-60 mph. Took it to several garages and they all said its nothing to worry about. About a week later when my dad was coming home from work the car was making a really loud awful noise, then there was a huge bang and the car just stopped. Turned out all the problems were coz the timing belt was worn out. The belt snapped, damaged the whole engine and the car needed a new engine it was damged that bad !

Might not be the problem in your car but worth checking.

i have the same problem on a 2005 hgt, new driveshafts wheels suspension legs the lot still does it, it came on after fitting coilovers, i took them off after 300 miles but it continued to do it, really at a loss now love the car but cannot be doing with the problem any fixes would help keep me a fiat owner
