General Punto With Hayabusa Power ....

I have used GT calipers, drilled/grooved 254mm discs and Red Dot XE pads. Its barely enough for 160bhp - ok for road, but im pretty sure a few hard track laps would smoke them.

If you want this to be ANY use at all on track, you need much bigger than 254mm, therefore you will need a bigger wheel than 15". Get coupe brembos and find a 16" wheel to fit - they suit puntos better than 15" anyways.

Thats IMO.

 why? Thats doing things for the sake of doing them. Its also OLD tech. No-one uses them any more.

Plus, even if current F1 cars used inboard brakes (which they dont) its a fast punto, not a balls-out spaceframed competition monster. Way more work than its worth, since its so easy to get big brakes on standard hubs anyways.

Still say why not. Mid engines have been done as well.

F1 dont use inboard brakes because
  • next to no suspension travel so unsprung weight isnt *that much* of an issue
  • F1 dont run low profiles - 50% of the suspension is in the tyres
  • run on (mostly) smooth tracks so wheel control is less of a bother
  • carbon ceramic brakes dont weigh very much.
  • Aerodynamic downforce is huge so they effectively cut any unsprung weight ratio down to 1/2 or 1/3 of its standing ratio.
  • Anyway inboard brakes would give nowhere for the driver's legs so not an option.

On a Punto special you can do what you like so why not - and get the benefit of mega brakes with very little unsprung weight.

Oh yes I do - lets have a row about it.

As I said, on a special you can do what you like. If it was about effort vs results the OP would have bought a Porsch. That might be fast but oh how boring.
