After browsing the autotrader website last night i noticed a stilo sporting multijet150 for sale at a local car supermarket for 6795 with 18000 on the clock. When i went to look at it the salesman informed me that it was at the main dealers for some minor waranty work.He then proceded to give me a trade in valuation of 3700 for my mint condition mk2b punto sporting with 20000 on the clock.:( on seeing i was not overly impressed he did the old "ill just see what my boss can do routine"on returning he then said that if i payed a £250 deposit would i buy the car and he could give me another £300 on top of his first offer he kept repeating this several times and i kept saying that i would not commit to anything without seeing the car first.Eventualy i got up and left saying that i would not be preasurised into anything:mad:.The problem is alough this man was a total ars***le i have wanted one of these cars for ages.Any thoughts on the deal i was offered?

Sorry,Forgot to mention my punto is on a 55 plate and the stilo is on a 06 plate.

salespricks are paid to be pricks. why dont they realise pressure selling wont work? simple, because it does work. many people need a push to make a decision about buying a car.

if you dont like pressure selling tactics then you need to tell the salesprick from the very beginning. it is not rude to say "please only answer my questions. i do not want your opinion nor do i want to hear a sales pitch."

some of them are so slimey they just cant help themselves and they'll still keep trying to get you to commit there and then. that is when its time to say "shut up you slimey salesprick, when i want to hear you speak i will tell you."

Any thoughts on the deal i was offered?
your punto is worth a bit more, the stilo is worth less.

sell punto private, then buy stilo with cash, and haggle hard.

if you had £6250 cash in your hand and said take it or leave it, they'd take it.

lets imagine you sell your car for £4250, then you only need to borrow an extra £2k to get the stilo. thats £795 cheaper than the current deal on the table.

After much deliberation the wife and myself have come up with a totaly diffrent solution:idea:we are going to hang on till a bit later in the year, then sell my car privately,i will then inherit her gp mjet sporting, and she will get the new 500 she has been pestering me for since launch.:)Everybody happy all round exept above mentioned salesman! The irony of it is that if this man had not been such a pr!*k i would have probably tied up a sale at the weekend.Never mind, his loss!
