punto sporting problem

i have just got a r reg 1.2 16v punto sporting cheap the only problem is it wont start off the key but it will bump start when you turn the key the dash lights dim and then the rev counter goes mad and the white relay under the bonnet just seems to keep clicking and when you bump it the revs keep going up and down

It's almost certainly an earthfault. Clean up all the earth connectors you can find, cover them in silicone grease, bolt them up tight.

thanks mate i have sorted it out it was the earth from the body to the gear box the clip had broke off the gearbox
