Punto Sporting 1.6 8v TURNS OVER ONLY 1 TIME Help

hi ive just brought a punto sporting. going to turn it into a auto grass stockhatch car. when i brought the car the chap said the gearbox was making noise at low speed..... ive looked and there is a hole in the top of the box and some numbers like 10.19.02 is the hole surpose to be there or is it knackerd ... its at the very top under the coil pack
also when i try to crank the car over it only turns once or twice then makes a noise under the bonnet... taken the cam cover belt off... its fine but needs replacing...taken the starter motor to be tested thats fine.....
has anyone had a problem like me HELP PLEASE......

that hole is supposed to be there, its just lost its rubber dust cover.

does it turn over with jump leads?

ive had a booster pack on the battery and no joy..... charged the battery still nothing earthing strips seem fine but the rocker gasket has failed and oil is all down the front of the casing over the ht leads ect but this wounldnt stop it from turning freely ha?

put it in 4 gear, ignition off an see if it turns with slight push or pull

what will that indecate as i havnt got anyone to give a hand at the mow
the engine does turn when i try to turn it over but its like the power isnt there

have you got a jump lead? try making a new earth with it, conect 1 end to earth on battery the other end to a clean bit of metal on the engine

Got the punto running today. i put a heavy duty battery on and turned it over it didnt make a nice sound then fired up running sweet as a nut
the altinater or waterpump must of been jamed but all fine know thanks for the advise and hope it help some1 else

Glad you got it fixed.

I had no end of starting problems with my Mk1 16v Punto Sporting, even bought two new batteries both of which ended up with the car not starting regularly.

Eventually a mate gave me the battery he had taken out of his Mk4 Golf and I didnt have a single problem after that. The Golf battery was far bigger than the battery that had been in the Punto...dunno if that makes a difference, but seems to have done in your case as well!

Yeah ive seen it posted somewere that punto's drain there batterys really quick:bang:
