hi
does anyone on here own a punto selecta? (auto) or know much about the ecvt gear box, the problem is no reverse gear, it started a few month ago when occasionaly it wouldnt move in reverse although the gear lever had selected reverse and it made that annoying beeping sound, it just wouldnt move (as if it was in neutral).
If left for a while or if you go through the gears it would eventualy work, now it has stopped working completely in reverse, foward gear and low gear work fine and in park it holds it well, ive changed all the parts i could on the gearbox from a breakers yard (the donor car was an mot failure and the gearbox functioned normally) thats had no effect, ive changed gearbox oil and that seemed to make a slight difference as in the car was trying to engage reverse and even managed to crawl back a few yards, but after a day it stopped reversing again, my local fiat dealer (and several not so local) has never seen one before so couldnt offer much help, nor has several "fiat specialists", the mere mention of automatic gearbox is met with "dunno, stick a new gearbox in", that may well be the case but id rather be told that by someone who acctualy knows about them rather than pot luck!, i believe the gearbox works on some kind of metal bands and am wondering if one is slipping due to wear (the car is a 1998 model with 78k), my dealer told me that the accelerator pedal works in conjunction with an electronic switch , ive disconnected it and its made no difference on or off, does anybody know if this switch is used for selecting reverse only (my dealer does not) and its about £60 and my dealer tells me its a part that has to be ordered and if it doesnt work but we use it, i cant take it back!!!! very helpful..not!
