Hey guys, i'm new here and i got some problems with a Fiat Punto '99 1.2 16v.

It sounds like its running on 2 cylinders only and i have tried a few things already.
With a ODB2 (Fiat ECU Multiscan) it gives me U1602 which resolves to a bad wiring? But what kind of wiring should i check up for this error?

I changed the coil, the entire computer system (ECU/ECM) but both did not fix anything? :bang:
With the new computer system it still gives me that error only and still running on 2 cylinders i guess?

Anyone ideas?
Thanks in advance.

U1601 = key not been recognised
if the key code is going out its one you can ignore
If it mis-reads the key code because of another cars key/ house alarm etc etc
Itll put thelight on

A misfire on 1 + 4 or 2 + 3 could be
A coil fault
a wiring fault
a ecu fault
a bizare ht / spark plug fault on the 2

Follow the guides section on ecu / coil testing

Ziggy

Thanks ziggy but can u point out which guides for me? Just replaced the spark cables, the strange thing is that when u stand in front of the car, the left 2 Sparks seem nothing to do, when we pull the spark cables out of these the car doesnt respond on anything?
For the coil, it seems alright?
After replacing the complete ECU/computer system i still have the same issues.
Also its not U1601 but U1602 ;)
Thanks for the help (y)

you say you changed coil
was this a new named one or white box sid one? ive seen white box sid not work and it came direct from a local car spares shop, hardly instills confidence in who flung copy dung copiers not checking quality control prior to leaving factory does it
with regards u 6 code check earth lead to ecu and clean bright and reattach

When you say the left two sparks do you mean cylinders 1&2 and are they producing sparks. Are you 100% sure the ht leads are on the right way at the coil end?

Swap the two coils over, complete, including their leads to plugs. As if you were replacing them. Don't just swap the leads to the other cylinders or they will fire at the wrong time. If the coil is at fault the misfire should move to the other two cylinders. If the misfire remains on the original two cylinders, this suggests that the coil is not being told to fire. Check wiring connections and earths, including connections at the ECU.
