Hi all,

I had a minor, unfortunate coming together with a VW Passat the other morning. It was my first ever bump and it was clear to see I came off the worst in My Punto Mia (2001).

Basically, it has to go through the insurance but my excess is really high and I will be paying for the damage myself, and losing my no claims in the process.

The visible damage is that the bumper has been crushed in a little and punctured my radiator inside. Im looking for advice on how much you would expect this to cost so I can prepare myself :(

Thanks in Advance, Lee C

Radiator: under £50 on Shop4Parts (10% discount for donated members :))

Bumper: Keep checking ebay/local scrappies or just put up with it lol

Obviously, I can't comment on how much it would cost if you had it done professionally, chances are "WhiteSei" will be along at some point to give some handy advice.

Thanks for the info. Do you know roughly what labour time it would take for the radiator repair?

I can't really just put up with the bumper damage as it affects how the bonnet closes slightly. It wont shut completely at the minute. I have no idea of what to expect from the garage as I've never had to claim on my insurance before. So confused!

Ahh, I assumed it was more superficial damage...

Have you already contacted your insurer?

I had no choice. The man who I ran into took my Reg. No. and contacted his insurer who then contacted me and then my insurer.

So yes lol, i'm currently waiting for the garage/dealer to contact me.

The way I see it, you have 2 options:
1.) You pay your excess to your insurers and lose your NCB and won't have to pay any more.
2.) You don't claim for the repairs on your insurance and pay for all of it yourself, keeping your NCB but you'll now have an accident recorded which will inevitably increase your premium anyway.

Either way, I'm guessing based on your age that your excess will be pretty high and any structural repairs are never cheap so this will end up costing you £££'s.

I figured I would be losing my NCB anyway as the guy I hit will be claiming?? His car has damage too (although it is very minimal). Plus, after already making the claim, I thought I would have to go through the insurance?? Id rather just pay the costs myself to keep my insurance down in the long term.
