Technical Punto MK2 Sporting - ABS problems?

Started car today and noticed the abs light was on, then when rolling along at 5mph in traffic jam whenever I hit the brakes there is a bad judder and a mechanical groaning sound.

Any ideas fiat-folks?

judder through the pedal?if so thats the abs acting(must have been driving gently if you have never heard it
1st think to check is around the abs sensors on each wheel and make sure they a clear of debris and wires are intact
